Welcome to Emerald Isle
There's nothing quite like coming over the towering bridge into Emerald Isle, knowing that you have long stretches of white-sand beaches and sunny days ahead. In 1954, the westernmost 13 miles of the Bogue Banks barrier island of the southern Outer Banks was purchased for the total price of $350,000. While that was the largest ever recorded purchase price in Carteret County at the time, it pales in comparison to the return on investment that was to come. Viewing the island as a green gem amidst a sea of sparkling water, the investor landed on "Emerald Isle" as the perfect name—and we can't think of a better one for this sweet slice of treasure!

Everything You'll LOVE in Emerald Isle
Beachside adventures
For panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, plus enough bait and tackle to reel in a big one, Bogue Inlet Pier is the place to be. Much more than just a pretty view, a fisher at this pier set the North Carolina state record for the largest sea mullet back in 1971. If you're in the mood for a little adventure, then you should look into one of the island's many rental services. From fishing charters to pontoon boats, Emerald Isle Adventures offers daily rentals to take residents out on the water for the time of their lives! Plus, Emerald Isle Paddle Tours will take you on a guided tour through the area's marshes and many estuaries of the Bogue Sound.
More adventures—but dryer
In addition to its beachside adventures, Emerald Isle also features plenty of fun-filled adventures on dry land. For starters, the island is home to a number of campgrounds, where residents can spend a night sleeping amid the Bogue Sound breeze. A premier oceanfront camping spot, Holiday Trav-L-Park Resort has a host of amenities for its campers including, a 70-foot swimming pool, go-kart track, and fun activities all summer long!
Distinguished shopping
Known for its distinctive beach-town style, Emerald Isle is home to several surf shops, including Bert's, South Swell, and Wings Beachwear. In addition to featuring exclusive surf brand apparel, South Swell offers professional surf lessons using the shop's quality board rentals. And if you're in search of a gift for a special occasion, you'll surely find the perfect piece at Elly's Gifts. Here, one local's entrepreneurship dreams have come to life in the form of collectibles, home decor, and so much more!
Delectable dining
If dinner with a view sounds like your style, then Emerald Isle's culinary scene has your name written all over it. You can't miss Surf's Up Grill & Bar (literally, it's lime green), with its exclusive location on the waterfront. At this locally owned joint, you can watch the waves while savoring the freshest seafood and delicious drink specials. Another seafood hotspot, Fish Hut Grill is small-town dining at its finest. Here, you can get to know your neighbors at the surfboard bar, or grab your favorite beverage from the cooler and pay on your way out. And if you have a sweet tooth, Flip Flops Donut Shop and Sweet Spot's ice cream are sure to curb your cravings!
